The mission of the Substance Abuse Policy Research Program (SAPRP) is to fund substance abuse policy research that can help reduce the harm caused by the use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs in the United States. More info...

SAPRP is authorized through 2009. No further rounds of funding are planned.

 

APIS Announces New Website Design: Easier Access to High-Quality State-by-State Alcohol Policies Data The Alcohol Policy Information System (APIS), a project by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, announces a new, user-friendly Web site. Users will find the same reliable APIS information in a fresh, streamlined design that simplifies access to APIS data. APIS continues to provide detailed State-by-State information at both State and Federal levels for 35 policies. The presentation of this information is now anchored by a new APIS homepage with links to all policy topics.

Call for Proposals: The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s (RWJF) Public Health Law Research (PHLR) program has released its second  call for proposals (CFP) for studies that will examine the public health impacts of laws and legal practices, including innovative  policy and legal approaches, and laws and regulations developed at the city or county level. The new call for proposals is available at www.publichealthlawresearch.org. The deadline for submitting brief proposals is April 14, 2010. Up to $3.5 million is available in this round of funding.  Short-term studies will be funded up to $150,000 each for up to 18 months. Complex studies will be funded up to $450,000 each for up to 30 months.

The white paper Unforeseen Benefits: Addiction Treatment Reduces Health Care Costs,” demonstrates that treating Americans who are addicted to alcohol and drugs will lead to substantial health care savings totaling billions of dollars over a decade.

ImpacTeen offers several databases available for research purposes. Currently there are databases for drug state-level data and tobacco state-level data. The ImpacTeen Alcohol Legislative Data are incorporated into the NIAAA AIPS database (described ablove).
