Supplement to: The Rise and Fall of Drug-related Homicides in New York City, 1985-1995
» Project Details
Project Summary:
This research project will supplement the official data sources on drug-related homicides with detailed qualitative analyses of the neighborhood contexts and dynamics of drug markets and drug-related homicide. The research will generate case studies of the onset and desistance of drug-related homicides, the interactions of law enforcement with buyers and sellers in local drug markets, and the reactions of other neighborhood residents to the drug markets and drug-related homicides. Informal, in-depth interviews with long-time neighborhood residents will complement neighborhood census, homicide and injury data. The analyses will involve an iterative process with quantitative and qualitative analyses mutually informing each other, leading to a full integration of the two data sources. This will provide a basis for interpreting neighborhood dynamics of drug-related and other homicides. This research is a supplement to the parent grant, "The Rise and Fall of Drug-related Homicides in New York City, 1985-1995".
