Key Researchers: Treating Opioid Addiction in an Office-Based Practice

Joe Merrill is an internal medicine physician and Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington. He is currently a co-investigator on an SAPRP project to better understand Medicaid and public funding for buprenorphine treatment of opioid dependence. He has been principal investigator on two SAPRP grants, one that has developed and evaluated a primary care-based methadone maintenance program, and a second that aims to pilot an office-based buprenorphine program within the Washington State Medicaid program. He also provides clinical care and teaches at Harborview Medical Center, with a focus on addiction medicine, pain management, and HIV care.
